Privacy Policy
1. General
With this privacy policy, we inform you about the processing of personal data in connection with our website and our services. This privacy policy applies to the website teels.ch as well as to the TEELS application accessible through it and our services.
If you are domiciled or established in the European Economic Area (EEA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) may apply in addition. In such cases, we process your personal data on the legal bases listed in section 3.
The data controller is:
TEELS AG
Buechholzstrasse 30
8964 Rudolfstetten
Switzerland
Email: hello@teels.ch
Data that our customers upload to the TEELS application – such as load profiles, meter data or details of their own end customers – we process as a processor on behalf of the respective customer. The customer is the controller for that data.
2. Collection of Personal Data
We primarily process personal data that you provide to us in connection with the use of our website and our services, for example when you:
- visit our website
- create an account
- contact us by email
- subscribe to our services
3. Purposes and Legal Bases
We process personal data for the following purposes. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the legal basis given for each:
- Providing the application and handling the contract – user account, tenant, subscription, support: performance of a contract and pre-contractual steps (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- The application’s emails – sign-in, invitations, subscription notices: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Payments and accounting: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and statutory retention obligations (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
- Answering enquiries by email: performance of a contract where the enquiry concerns one, otherwise our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR).
- Security and operations – server log files, operational monitoring, the application’s audit log, backups: our legitimate interest in secure and stable operation and in fending off misuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Web analytics with Umami: our legitimate interest in improving the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The analyses are anonymous, see section 5.
- Compliance with legal obligations: Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR.
4. Cookies and Local Storage
The website sets no cookies. If you switch between the light and dark theme, your browser stores that choice in local storage (localStorage), and only once you use the switch.
In the TEELS application we use only technically necessary or functional cookies: for signing in, for protecting forms, for two-factor authentication and – once you choose a language or a theme – for that setting. During a session the browser also keeps the selected tenant and end customer and list settings (sessionStorage); these are deleted when you close the browser.
We do not use any tracking or advertising cookies, and we do not embed third-party services for analytics or advertising purposes. For cookieless web analytics, see section 5.
You can configure your browser to inform you about the setting of cookies or to reject cookies in general. If cookies are disabled, certain functions – in particular signing in to the application – may not be available.
5. Server Log Files, Operational Monitoring and Web Analytics
When you visit our website, our web server automatically stores technical information about each request (server log files): date and time, the address requested, HTTP status code, amount of data transferred, response time, the previously visited page (referrer), and browser and operating system (user agent). Your IP address is shortened before it is stored (IPv4 to the first three number blocks, IPv6 to the first three blocks), so it can no longer be attributed to an individual. We use this information to ensure the secure and stable operation of the website, to detect errors and to fend off misuse. The log files are deleted after 30 days.
To operate the TEELS application we record technical logs, metrics and traces. Logs may contain your email address and the names of end customers, locations and tenants. We run this monitoring ourselves; the data is transmitted over a private network and deleted after 30 days.
For statistical analysis of how our website is used, we employ the open-source software Umami, which we operate ourselves; the data is not passed on to third parties. Umami sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It records the page visited, the referrer, browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language setting, as well as the country, region and city derived from the IP address. The IP address itself is not stored. To group the page views of a single visit, Umami computes a hash from the IP address and user agent using a key that changes daily; this makes it impossible to recognise you across several days. The analyses are anonymous and do not allow any conclusions about you as a person.
6. Recipients and Disclosure of Data
We only disclose your personal data to third parties if:
- you have given your explicit consent
- it is necessary for the fulfilment of a contract
- there is a legal obligation
- it is necessary to enforce our rights
The following service providers process personal data on our behalf and are contractually obligated to comply with data protection regulations:
- Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany – hosting of the application and backups
- Infomaniak Network SA, Switzerland – sending email and, on request, hosting in Switzerland
- Payrexx AG, Switzerland – card payments
- bexio AG, Switzerland – accounting and invoicing
The purpose, location and data processed for each provider are listed on our sub-processors page.
Our processors are located in Switzerland or the European Economic Area (EEA), and the data is processed only there. Switzerland is covered by an adequacy decision of the European Commission. Application data is hosted in data centres within the European Union or — on request — in Switzerland.
If you connect your own AI to TEELS through the MCP interface, the data it queries flows to the provider you use for it. That provider is not our processor; its own terms apply.
7. Data Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss or misuse. Despite these measures, absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
8. Retention Period
We store personal data only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes described or as required by statutory retention obligations. Specifically:
- Account and contract data, and the data uploaded to the application: for the duration of the contract. After that, customers can still export their data under section 9 of the terms; we then delete it within 30 days.
- Backups: 14 daily and 12 monthly snapshots. Deleted data therefore disappears from the backups after 12 months at the latest.
- The application’s audit log: 3 years.
- Website server log files and application operational logs: 30 days.
- Payment and accounting records: 10 years (Art. 958f of the Swiss Code of Obligations).
9. Your Rights
Under applicable data protection law, you have the following rights:
- Right of access: You may request information about the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: You may request the correction of inaccurate personal data.
- Right to erasure: You may request the deletion of your personal data, provided no statutory retention obligations apply.
- Right to restriction of processing: You may request the restriction of data processing under certain circumstances.
- Right to object: You may object to the processing of your personal data where it is based on our legitimate interest.
- Right to data portability: You may request the release of your personal data in a commonly used format.
- Right to lodge a complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority. In Switzerland, this is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). If you reside in the EEA, you may contact the data protection authority responsible for you.
To exercise your rights, please contact us at hello@teels.ch.
10. Changes
We may amend this privacy policy at any time. The current version is always published on our website.
